max.recall information systems GmbH is a Vienna, Austria based company offering consulting and development services for search and content analytics solutions such as vertical search or social media analysis. max.recall has been founded in 2010 by a team of highly skilled experts in the fields of information retrieval, machine learning and natural language processing. The founders of max.recall have gained more than 12 years of experience in managing and executing complex R&D projects and applied research. This has led to over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Team

Michael Dittenbach

Michael Dittenbach is co-founder of and Senior Information Access Engineer at max.recall information systems GmbH. He received his M.Sc. in computer science in 2000 and his doctoral degree in 2003 from the Vienna University of Technology. Since 1998, Michael is passionate about algorithms for retrieving and automatically organizing information and using them to create meaningful real world applications. In 2001, he started designing and implementing his first search engine for a tourism information system using natural language processing technologies and ontologies. He also developed an extensive neurocomputing toolkit for data clustering and visualization, which is available as open source software.

After his work at a center for applied research in the area of e-Commerce, which also included giving several lectures at the university, Michael was co-founder of a Vienna-based startup developing 3D virtual world solutions for real estate applications. In his roles as senior researcher and member of the Professional Services team at a patent information services provider, he learned a lot about the intellectual property domain and about patent data and searching, which was the perfect playground for developing innovative data management and search applications using technologies such as Lucene and CouchDB among many others.

Over the years, Michael has accumulated over 60 scientific publications, gained experience in running national and international research projects, reviewed for major scientific journals and conferences and organized several scientific workshops. Michael loves Lucene/Solr, growing tomatoes and really hot peppers, neural networks, roses and clematis, cutting-edge open source projects and horticulture in general.

Helmut Berger

Helmut Berger is co-founder and CEO of max.recall information systems GmbH. Before that he was head of the Information Retrieval department of an Austrian service provider for solutions in the patent and intellectual property domain. During this time, he gained extensive experience in the areas of Text Analytics and Information Retrieval with particular emphasis on the challenges in the patent domain.

Before that, he was Senior Researcher at an Austrian center for applied research in the area of e-Commerce. In 2004, he held a position as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia.

His work concentrates on patent information retrieval, data mining and machine learning, and human-computer interaction. In these areas, he has published more than 60 papers in books, conference proceedings and journals. He successfully applied for and led national and international research projects in these areas. He has studied Computer Science at the Vienna University of Technology. Helmut received his master's degree in Computer Science in 2001 and his PhD in 2003 from the Vienna University of Technology.

In addition to that, Helmut Berger has several years of experience in managing and developing commercial software projects. During this time, he was realizing B2C and B2B e-commerce projects for large Austrian companies.

Veronika Zenz

Veronika Zenz is co-founder of and Senior Search Technology Expert at max.recall information systems GmbH. She has studied Computer Science at the Vienna University of Technology and the INSA Lyon and received her master's degree in 2007. During her studies, she gave lectures and was responsible for design and implementation EC funded E-Learning project. After leaving university, she has been working as consultant in the areas of business intelligence, data mining and data processing. She was leading major software engineering projects.

After that, she has been working as an Information Retrieval scientist at the Information Systems & Information Retrieval department of an Austrian service provider for solutions in the patent and intellectual property domain. Her focus was on the design and implementation of Information Systems and Text Analytics technologies. She has been leading the development software projects, co-organized scientific workshops and set up an IR - evaluation campaign, CLEF-IP, on patent retrieval.

Andreas Pesenhofer

Andreas Pesenhofer is co-founder of and Senior Information Access Engineer at max.recall information systems GmbH. He received his M.Sc. in Business Informatics from the Vienna University of Technology in 2004. During his Erasmus exchange semester at the University of Lund in Sweden, he focused on information systems. Andreas Pesenhofer was one of the founding members of BEST Vienna and organizer in the Buddynetwork - both are student associations at the Vienna University of Technology dealing with international students.

From 2004 to 2007, Andreas Pesenhofer was Researcher at an Austrian Center for Applied Research in the area of e-Commerce. The analysis and creation of solutions based on predictive models was his main topic. In 2008, Andreas Pesenhofer was hired as a Senior Technologist at the Information Systems & Information Retrieval department of an Austrian service provider for solutions in the patent and intellectual property domain. He acquired comprehensive knowledge of the requirements and needs in the patent domain. Andreas Pesenhofer focused on the areas of text clustering and classification as well as text analytics with open-source technologies.

In addition to his work experience, Andreas Pesenhofer has continued his research in the areas of information retrieval, data mining and machine learning with over 20 scientific publications. He has experience in organizing scientific conferences and has been treasurer and auditor at different associations for many years.

Ingo Seidel

Ingo Seidel is Information Access Engineer at max.recall information systems GmbH. He received his M.Sc. in computer science in 2007 and his doctoral degree in 2010 from the Vienna University of Technology. He enjoyes solving complex problems and planning ahead. He was and is active in the field of collaborative environments and search technologies.

Ronald Genswaider

Ronald Genswaider is Web Designer and Engineer at max.recall information systems GmbH. He received his M.A. from the University of Applied Arts Vienna in 2006 and his M.Sc. in Business Informatics from the Vienna University of Technology in 2008. Apart from his creative and fancy designs, he is responsible for the interactvie User Interfaces.

Marita Haas

Marita Haas is Gender Research Consultant at max.recall information systems GmbH. She has studie International Business Administration at the University of Vienna and received her degree in 2003. She received her doctoral degree in Economics and Science from the Vienna University in 2006. Her research focus is on Biography Research, Female Biographies, Life Stories, Gender, Work & Life Balance. She has published more than 20 research papers.

Joseph Wenninger (Freelancer)

Joseph Wenninger is Consultant for Parallel Programming and helps max.recall information systems GmbH to make things go faster than ever expected. He studied Computer Science at the Vienna University of Technology and received he's M.Sc in 2008
